Comic Retro

In the mid of 1990's, my father once collected comic books and magazines of his time. As a kid, I was really curious of what my father kept in our closet during those days. When I found those items, I was fancied by its cover and of course they were cartoon like at the same time realistic to see. Unlike the comics and magazines I had, the type of paper was used on those items were like a newspaper. Until I found out that those comics and magazines I checked is what they called Pulp comic books and magazines.

Before the television and radio were out, these vintage comic books were big hit for entertainment after novels. The prizes were ranging from 10 cents to 25 cents. Very affordable in my time, but in my father's, well not much. Until World War II came and that causes shortage of papers.

Even though these items were slowly facing out, the influence still stays among writers and comic artists. Let us say that, these comics are now in the next level of appearance and the material use to make it. Vintage pulp comics are my references when it comes to fashion and it gives me ideas how to make it fashionable in my time.

Well, it's clear that I wasn't born when these anime aired, but they left an impact on me. There're many vintage animes that are known or acknowledged by the viewers but not all of them had been liked.

The 1st vintage anime that I've watched was Voltes V. It was a robot themed anime that caught my attention. My parents introduced this to me by the time it was re-aired in the late 1990's. It's a family themed anime as well aside all the rebellious and violent events. Next is Daimos which also robotic themed, this was my most loved anime, Why? Well it's because of Kazuya and Erika's love team and the forbidden love that they share. Then later, I discovered Sailor Moon, a magical girls themed anime who wore cute sailor battle attire and weapons and power make-up medium. While watching the series of this anime there was a slashable shoujo-ai attached to it. Next on the list, Ranma 1/2. I almost gotten how crazy I was when I watched this anime because of the love web between Ranma and Akane and yes that love web was their biggest obstacle. It helped them know how strong their relationship is; and also the transformation of Ranma and his father from a boy to girl and human to panda. Then comes Astro Boy.I thought that this anime was a new release when it was aired but when I checked the net, it was way beyond from early 2000's. Lastly, Rose of Versailles. I discovered this anime while surfing for Lolita Fashion. A very unique and beautiful story line and close to the story of Mulan though it was in a different situation.

To be honest, I didn't get to finish all episodes of these animes except for Voltes V. The revelation of the relationship of Steve Armstrong and his mortal enemy gave me a bit of a shock. The twists in it were really amazing.

These vintage animes are my inspirations and references to create new stories and until now it influences people, and me, more.

Whenever I see these styles,  Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Nicole Kidman and Rachel Weisz are the ones I could think of. Old-fashioned yet stylish. Vintage hairstyles are now trending and most stylist and trendsetters as well as teenagers in this generation would love to have such styles.

There are, most of them, now have upgraded versions of these styles to make more daring, cool, mysterious and elegant appearances. Most vintage female hairstyles are on Bob style or quiff and the elegance of updo styles.

The updo vintage hairstyles are usually now popular for special occasion hairstyle such as weddings, formal parties. Though when these styles were still hit among women, aristocrats, even though there were no special occasions, their everyday hair dress was updo.

The most influential vintage hair do would be Marilyn Monroe's. Yes, because most Hollywood celebrities have similar styles which were inspired with her own hair style. It was then sought to be a very sexy hair style in the 50's.

So all in all, like the fashion itself, the trends of this hairstyle will not be rotten nor forgotten because of its contribution and influence in the society.

J-Vintage Lolita Fashion

Source: www.vintag.es
The Japanese vintage fashion's total modern style has complicated designs (esp. in prints) but the classic touch of the style itself hasn't gone out of the line.
Last time, I visited  a Kawaii Convention that most of the Japanese enthusiast were wearing the Japanese latest fashion which are the vintage styled dresses. The Japanese vintage dresses were considered as Casual Lolita fashion or close to that. Like those vintage dresses, it also has such complicated designs but because of it, a beautiful and simply elegant image appeared.

Some vintage dresses were close enough to being a school uniform, based on some of the animes that I've watched and also from the mangas I've read.

A Trending Throwback

I have been amazed by this kind of fashion though honestly I wasn't born within the 1920's nor the following 20 consecutive years when this style was still huge. But fashion trends are just circulating. The vintage styles and the retro look are constantly being revived.

Still chic elegance that was established in the Golden Era (think Coco Chanel) is undoubtedly timeless. I would say something akin to the clothes that are being worn by the mannequin in the image above. Though there are vintage styled dresses that are given a modern twist to make it practical for the contemporary woman to wear and there are some given a more complex transformation. But most vintage dresses had stayed the same because they have a classic silhouette that simply never goes out of style.

As an example, t-shirt designs with photographic prints or artwork that captures the style of a bygone era have been currently popular. Teenagers or youngsters are into these iconic images like The Beatles walking on the Abbey Road or Marilyn Monroe's sweet smile or the musical instruments of the 80's.
